LEICESTER’S PROGRESS TO BE DECIDED TODAY

Leicester's women enjoyed mixed results on the first day of the EuroHockey Indoor Clubs Trophy in Abbeville, France, yesterday (Friday).

Their first match, against Belgian side La Gantoise, saw Chloe Rogers find the net for Leicester four times, with other goals coming from Rebecca Herbert (2), Kerry Williams and Gemma Darrington. The final score in that match, 8-3 to Leicester.

Their second match of the day involved Austrian side Arminen, and was a closely fought affair, with Leicester coming back from behind twice in the first half, to finish the half at 2-2. Chloe Rogers was Leicester's scorer on both occasions. However, a single goal by Krisine Vukowich shortly after the break gave a final score of 3-2 in favour of the Austrians.

Under the points allocation rules in European indoor tournaments Leicester now have six points, five from their win and one from the match against Arminen, which leaves them in second place in Pool A. They play their final match in the pool against Slavia Haradec Kralove, who are currently in third. A first or second place finish in the pool means that Leicester would enter the promotion pool. A third or fourth place finish would mean a fight to stay in the Trophy division in the relegation pool.
