‘GRINSTEAD CEMENT PREMIERSHIP LEAD

The Conference divisions of the England Hockey League had a virtually full programme of fixtures today, although Belper had the misfortune to have their home match against Deeside Rambler cancelled due to a risk of flooding. There were also some men's and women's Premiership matches whilst clubs tried to catch up with their pre-Christmas postponements. The Premier Divisions do not start in earnest until next weekend.

East Grinstead further cemented their position at the top of the Men's Premier with a 4-0 win at Brooklands, whilst the mid-table clash between Bowdon and Surbiton ended 2-1 in Surbiton's favour. Bowdon Hightown's success indoors last Sunday was not repeated outdoors when they went down 2-0 to Leicester. It could have been three to Leicester but Crista Cullen's 53rd minute penalty stroke hit the post. Olton and West Warwicks position looks increasingly precarious as they went down 3-0 to Birmingham University.

In the Men's North Conference, Leek's position at the top of the table is under challenge as Sheffield Hallam recorded a 6-1 win over Barford Tigers, whilst the leaders went down 4-1 to Durham Univesity. At the top of the West Conference it's still neck and neck between University of Exeter and Bath Buccaneers, as both picked up three points and are both on 28 points, only separated by goal difference.

In the women's East Conference, Surbiton relinquished their lead after they lost 1-2 at home to Harleston Magpies. Their place is taken by Sevenoaks, who recorded a 4-0 win over struggling St Albans. The top of the table clash between leaders Buckingham and second placed Isca ended 0-2 in Isca's favour and they need take over the lead.
