GERMANS DO INDOOR DOUBLE by Peter Savage in Poznan

In what was a magnificent advertisement for hockey, and its indoor variety, the Champions Germany fought out an exciting battle to claim the honours in the final of the third FIH Indoor World Cup in Poznan this afternoon.

Supported by a large but good natured crowd, the Poles stormed into a 2-0 lead within 11 minutes. The Germans pulled one back before half time, and Oskar Deecke equalised in the second half, taking the match into golden goal extra time.

Commendably, both sides continued their attacking hockey into extra time, and it fell to the hosts to concede a goal after four minutes off the stick of Benjamin Wess. Final score 3-2.

The German women had earlier taken the honours in the women's tournament, when they overcame The Netherlands 4-2.
