EAST GRINSTEAD CLING ON TO SURVIVAL

East Grinstead increased their chances of surviving in the top tier of European indoor hockey this afternoon, with an emphatic win over Menzieshill in the relegation pool of the EuroHockey Indoor Club Championships in Luzern.

Dave De Prez found the net within a minute of the start, the first of a hat-trick. The first half was closely contested and finished 3-2 in favour of Menziehill, but the Scots side were not to find the East Grinstead net again in the second half. Mark Pearn put two into the Menzieshill goal in quick order, with De Prez scoring his third soon after. In the last three minutes Niall Stott got in on the action, followed by Adamson Harper, with Stott rounding off a successful match with 'Grinstead's eighth goal in the closing seconds. Final score 8-3 to East Grinstead.

East Grinstead play Polish side WKS Grunwald tomorrow. They are currently in second place in the relegation pool, a position they must hold or better in order to avoid a quick return to the Trophy competition next season. They are currently on 6 points, made up of 5 points from today's win, plus 1 point carried over from Pool B. Contrary to our earlier report, EG carried forward one point as a result of their 4-2 defeat by Club de Campo earlier today. A defeat with a goal difference of no more than two goals wins 1 point in this tournament.
