Yesterday in the EuroHockey League.

There are no English sides involved in Round 1.1 of the EuroHockey League in Eindhoven (all three are in action in Terrassa in two weeks time) but hopefully the English clubs will meet some of the qualifiers from this round in Round 2.

The weekend's action started on a damp and dismal Friday, with a good win for Irish side Pembroke Wanderers against Olympia Kolos Sekvoia of The Ukraine. Pembroke threw away a 2-0 advantage to go behind 2-3, but two very late goals from Brandon Panther gave Pembroke Wanderers an eventual 4-3 win.

One of the favourites, Rot-Wiess Koln, outplayed Racing Club Bruxelles to take the match 4-2. This might have spelt early signs of elimination for the Belgian side but, as we write, Racing Club are making a dramatic comeback against Club de Campo in their Saturday morning match, so watch this space!

The other Belgian side, KHC Dragons, had an impressive win against Izmaylovo Moscow, finishing the match 5-1.

The spectators who braved the rain for the last game of the day were treated to eight goals in what was otherwise a rather pedestrian match. The Russians of Dinamo Kazan had a 4-2 advantage over their Polish opponents of KS Pomorzanin Torun with less than 20 minutes to play but a goal from Michal Kunklewski and a brace from Michal Nowakowski ended the match at 4-4.

STOP PRESS: Racing Club lost their Saturday morning match to Club de Campo 3-6.
