'GRINSTEAD CLINCH IT AGAIN by Peter Colwill at the Super Sixes Finals

East Grinstead are the English indoor champions after beating Beeston 8-5 in the Super Sixes at Wembley Arena,

Beeston were behind from an opening minute strike by David De Prez, and although they equalized twice, East Grinstead’s superior reserve strength saw them through to a confortable victory.

De Prez added a couple more goals and there were braces for Barry Middleton and Niall Stott. Adam Dixon, who was devastating, scored a couple for Beeston who had reached the final beating Reading on penalties.

STROKES DECIDE WOMEN'S WEMBLEY FINAL by Peter Colwill at the Super Sixes finals.

Bowdon Hightown became the Women’s Indoor champions by beating Reading 9-8 on penalty strokes following a 5-5 draw in the final. Amy Tennant dived low to her left to deny Emma Thomas at the 22nd stroke of the shoot-out.

Alex Danson was the outstanding player with 4 goals, including 3 from open play. Sam Quek scored Reading’s other goal against her former club.

Sally Walton (the official player of the match) converted both Hightown’s corners with the other goals coming from Nicky O’Donnell, Fay Nash and the evergreen Tina Cullen.

WINTER HITS SHEFFIELD FOR A SECOND TIME – Todays re-arranged Conference games.

The England Hockey League does not officially re-start after its winter break until next week but there were seven matches postponed from the weekend of 27/28 November which were played today. There should have been an eighth but wintry conditions struck the North Conference match between Sheffield Hallam and Olton & West Warwicks for the second time and it has had to be postponed again. Elsewhere in the North, Leek put three past Harborne to win 3-1 and increase their lead at the top of the table to five points.

In the East Conference, Holcombe's hopes of promotion took a dent when they went down 3-0 away to Harleston Magpies. The gap between them and leaders Southgate has opened to five points.

The West conference saw three matches played, two of which involved promotion contenders. University of Exeter, looking for an early return to the Premiership earned maximum points at home against University of Birmingham. A second half rally by Fareham failed to stop Bath Buccs charge at the top of the table, but Exeter Uni still hold the lead on goal difference. At the other end of the table, Bournville increased their chances of survival with a 5-4 win over Bournville.

Tomorrow (Sunday) sees the Super Sixes Indoor Finals at Wembley. TalkHockeyRadio will be there with reports on this blog, plus images next day on our sister site at www.hockeyimages.co.uk.
