NO DWYER BUT GERMAN’S WIN FIRST MATCH by Peter Savage pitchside in Terrassa.

The match between Beeston and CA Mountrouge in Round 1.2 of the EuroHockey League has just finished and a full report will appear later. The final score was 3-2 in favour of Beeston.

Earlier we were able to witness an intriguing match between Mannheimer and Glenanne of Ireland. The Irish, who most would have seen as the underdogs in this match, clearly decided to cover themselves in glory and attack from the start. It was a policy that paid an 18th minute dividend when Gary Shaw found the net. Mannheimer managed to edge their way back into the match, and a goal either side of half time eventually gave them the win.

Readers of my regular 'Clubs in Europe' column in England Hockey News may be surprised that I have not mentioned the exploits of Mannheimer's new signing, Jamie Dwyer. Dwyer is still playing for his old Dutch club Bloemendaal after the transfer fell down on a problem caused by German League rules. Dwyer had played some league hockey in Australia, which disqualified him from playing in Germany. The rules are different in The Netherlands, hence his return to Bloemendaal
