ENGLAND BOUNCE BACK TO GAIN SEMI FINAL PLACE

The pool stages of the women's tournament in the Commonwealth Games finished today.

England managed to bounce back after the disappointment of a very poor performance against New Zealand yesterday, to beat Malaysia 3-0, with goals from Nicola White, Alex Danson and Georgie Twigg, the latter scoring her first England goal. England will play Australia on Monday in the semi finals.

England also notched up a win in Men's Pool B by beating New Zealand. A hat trick of goals from James Tinsdall, and goals from Richard Mantell and Rob Moore, puts England one point ahead of New Zealand and South Africa.

Scotland have still to record a goal in Men's Pool A. They were comprehensively overcome by India to lose 0-4. They have now completed all their pool stages matches and will play Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday to see who takes the wooden spoon.

ENGLAND HOCKEY LEAGUE RESULTS:

There was almost a full programme in both the men's and women's England Hockey League this afternoon, with two Men's Premier Division matches being played tomorrow. At the time of uploading this blog there were still some results to come in.

Beeston continued their impressive start to the season with a 5-3 win over Canterbury, with Samuel Ward scoring all five goals. Their main rivals, East Grinstead, play tomorrow.

In the Women's Premier, Leicester dropped their first points of the season when they drew away at Cannock. Canterbury's 2-0 win over Birmingham means a reshuffle at the top of the table, with Leicester on top, followed by Canterbury. Reading are still looking for their first points of the season after they went down 3-2 to Olton & West Warwickshire.
