It was a goal feast on the second day of the EuroHockey League in Eindhoven today, with no less than 37 goals being scored in four matches.
The first game of the day was between the holders, UHC Hamburg, and debutantes Izmaylovo Moscow. UHC managed to put four past the Russians in nine minutes in the first half, and then capped it with two more in the last ten minutes, to finish the match 6-0. The scorers, with a brace apiece, were Patrick Breitenstein, Oliver Korn and Marco Miltkau.
Taken in the context of today's matches, Club de Campo Madrid's 6-3 win over Racing Club Bruxelles was quite modest. The Belgian side stunned the Spanish by opening the scoring in the 15th minute, but the team from Madrid soon established their supremacy, although a late Bruxelles rally signalled a fight back which fizzled out after two goals.
HGC , Ashley Jackson's old club, destroyed Olimpia Kolos Sekovoia from The Ukraine, going into half time at 6-0. Two second half goals from the Ukrainians were little consolation as the Dutch ran out 9-2 winners.
HGC's win was nothing compared with that of the hosts, Oranje Zwart, who were 4-0 ahead by the end of the first quarter in their match against the Poles from Pomorzanin Torun. They went on to score six more to win the match 10-1, with Lucas Judge scoring a hat-trick. Mink Van Der Weerden, who is seen by some as the new Taeke Taekema, had a comparatively fallow day, with only two penalty corner conversions to his credit.
