‘GRINSTEAD TAKE LEAD AFTER TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH

Photo: Guildford's Rory Marsh celebrates his goal in his side's 1-0 win over Fareham in the West Conference (www.HockeyImages.co.uk).

The clash of the giants this afternoon resulted in East Grinstead keeping their 100% record and taking the lead in the Premier Division. 'Grinstead's young German player, Mats Grambusch, and the very experienced Mark Pearn, found the net either side of half time to win their match against Beeston 2-0.

Cannock recorded their first win of the season when they beat Surbiton at home 3-2. They remain at the bottom, where they are joined on four points by Canterbury, who slide from sixth to ninth after losing 2-3 at home to Bowdon. Bowdon move up to third place on the back of that result.

Reading's woes continue as they went down 2-1 at Brooklands . Hampstead and Westminster slip down to fourth after a surprise 5-2 defeat against Loughborough Students. The three points improve the Students' position from eighth to fifth.

TalkHockeyRadio was at the West Conference match between Guildford and Fareham this afternoon. In a match that was more entertaining than the scoreline suggests, both sides were thwarted by some quality goalkeeping, but it was left to Guildford's Rory Marsh to parry an absolute gift into an empty net to take the match 1-0. Guildford move up one place to third but Fareham seem to be in serious trouble after only recording one point after five games. Photos from this match are on our web site at www.HockeyImages.co.uk.

In the East Conference, Southgate seemed determined to outdo some of the results in the EuroHockey League this weekend by beating Sevenoaks 12-1, with Johannes Kloess netting four and Robert Schilling adding three. Leaders, Indian Gymkhana could only draw at home to St Albans, but keep their place at the top of the table, with Southgate three points behind in second.

The East was not the only Conference to see a high scoring match. Doncaster beat bottom of the table Ben Rhydding 8-0 in the North Conference. But they were outdone by the leaders, Sheffield Hallam, who put ten past Harborne for a reply of two, with no less than seven Hallam players getting their name of the scoresheet.

RESULTS FROM TODAY'S EUROHOCKEY LEAGUE WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY.
