WEEKEND MAKES A DIFFERENCE FOR BEESTON

t is extraordinary what a difference a weekend can make in the first half of the season, as Beeston can testify. Beeston had recently been lying in seventh place in the Men's Premiership after a poor start to the season, but they had games in hand and their 4-1 win this afternoon over Exeter University elevates them to fourth place.

Another struggling side, Loughborough Students, also managed a climb up the table, courtesy of a useful win over Hampstead and Westminster, whilst the two Premiership leaders both recorded wins this afternoon.

TalkHockeyRadio was at Guildford to see the West Conference side take on leaders Bath Buccaneers. To use a boxing analogy, Bath delivered two potentially knock out blows early in the match, the first from Phil Ball after only two minutes and the second from Johnny Kinder after seven. Guildford were in serious disarray at the back, but although they wobbled they did not fall and amazingly managed to respond with two goals of their own whilst still reeling from the early setback, Duncan Marsh the scorer of both goals. In the second half the home side seem to settle down and so they may be disappointed that they managed to concede Bath's winner in the last ten minutes from a second goal by Kinder. Photographs from this match will appear on our sister site at www.HockeyImages.co.uk tomorrow (Monday).

Bath Buccaneers now have a six point lead over second placed Whitchurch, the largest margin of any leader in the men's EHL. Whitchurch slipped up today, going down to eighth placed Stourport 4-1.

Our photograph shows recent Bath recruit, Tim Davenport, in action against Guildford.
