CLIFTON LEAD ENDED BY WEATHER

The storms that have swept the South and West of England resulted in one disrupted game this afternoon when the Women's Premiership match between Clifton and Brooklands Poynton had to be abandoned after 33 minutes. Clifton were 3-1 up at the time, which might be considered a bit of a setback for a side that is desperately in need of points.

Another underperforming side, Bowdon Hightown, did at least have the satisfaction of seeing a former Hightown player, Jo Ellis, denied by Kirsty Mackay, when she stepped up to take a penalty stroke in their match against visiting Reading. That match ended 5-2 in favour of Reading, with Alex Danson scoring a hat-trick.

Leicester continue their charge at the head of the Premiership with a 2-0 win over Olton, and this season's surprise package, Slough, keep the leaders in their sights with a 3-2 win at home to Canterbury.

As a result of today's matches, Slough and Olton swap places in the table.

TalkHockeyRadio was at Staines to see them play Bath Buccaneers in the Women's West Conference. Buccaneers are new to the Conference but follow in the footsteps of their menfolk who are enjoying a stellar season. Both Staines and Buccaneers are approximately mid table but in the early encounters of this match it was the visitors who seemed to make most of the running. So Kelly Maskery's two first half penalty corner conversions came as a bit of a surprise. Eleanor Stones managed to pull one back for the Buccaneers just before the break but Jessica Brooker scored early in the half to restore Staines two goal lead. Tash Dykes responded from a corner almost immediately and a third goal in the last ten minutes by Zoe Shipperley gave Bath a final 3-3 draw. A quite excellent and entertaining match which shows that good hockey is played in the women's Conferences. And, as a bonus, the rain laden sky managed to spare us for the 70 minutes of the match.

Our photograph shows action from the match between Staines and Team Bath Buccaneers. Further images will appear on our web site at www.hockeyimages.co.uk tomorrow (Sunday).
