BEESTON HAVE GOOD DAY AT THE OFFICE

It was a good day at the office for Beeston Hockey Club in the England Hockey League this afternoon. Their men, playing the last of their games in hand, have managed to climb two places into fifth position after a 5-2 win over Hampstead and Westminster. Beeston's goals came from Andrew Monte (2 PC), Martin Jones, David Griffiths and Adam Dixon. Beeston travel down to struggling University of Exeter tomorrow, with a further chance to put a poor start to the season behind them. There were no other men's matches today in the England Hockey League

Beeston's women had a bit of a goalfest at Highfields, putting seven past Sheffield Hallam for no reply their Conference North encounter. They move up one place to fourth.

The Women's Premier Division was in full swing this afternoon. Leicester continue to make the pace, helped by a 2-0 win over Slough. Reading are very much in the chase after an emphatic win over Brooklands Poynton and are only three points adrift of the leaders. Last season Canterbury were the only side to beat Bowdon Hightown. It was a slightly different story today with the honour being even. Tina Cullen scored a hat trick in their 4-4 draw.

The meeting of the two bottom teams in the Premier Division ended in disappointment for Trojans. Their visitors, Clifton, won their first match of the season in their 4-1 encounter.
