ENGLAND HOCKEY CUP RESULTS

Cup matches always seem to throw up one or two giant killers, and in this respect it was a good afternoon for South Premier sides from Sussex. Brighton and Hove, currently lying 6th, went to Barford Tigers and came away with a 5-4 win to put them through to the next round.

TalkHockeyRadio was along the coast at Chichester, who are 4th in the South Premier. They were playing host to England Hockey League Premier Division Hampstead and Westminster. The Londoners took an early lead courtesy of Harwinder Chima, but it was clear that this was not going to be an easy afternoon for them. Chichester seemed completely at ease playing their more distinguished visitors and it came as no surprise when they equalised early in the second half.

The match could have easily gone either way, but goals by Kieren Rooke and Dave Eakins gave Hampstead a rather flattering final win of 3-1. As Hampstead coach Todd Williams commented after the match, "Chichester don't know how unlucky they were," a sentiment which we would share. Not a win for sure, but a very creditable performance.

Our picture shows a last minute scramble as Chima's goal goes into the Chichester net (Chichester are in white). More photographs from this match can be found at www.hockeyimages .co.uk
