READING IN SHOCK CUP DEFEAT

There was action in women's England Hockey League this afternoon, plus the Fourth Round of the Men's Cup.

Possibly the shock result of the day was the defeat of perennial cup finalists, Reading, in the Cup. After Reading had drawn level against Brooklands in the 62 minute through a Chris Newman goal, Dave Seddon went on to win the match for Brooklands after six minutes of extra time. Elsewhere, Beeston smashed West Conference side Fareham 10-0. Hampstead and Westminster, who struggled in the last round to beat South Premier opposition, found themselves in trouble again, this time against Brighton & Hove, finally winning the match after 11 minutes of golden goal extra time. The cup match between Belper and University of Birmingham had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Full Round Four Cup results are shown below immediately after the results and tables from the Women's England Hockey League.

TalkHockeyRadio was at Canterbury this afternoon where Birmingham University's women were in action in the Premiership. Canterbury's coach, Ian Jennings, has had a good weekend, with first his charges in the Men's West Conference, Guildford, recording a win yesterday, and his women winning only their second match of the season. In appalling weather, Sarah Kerly scored from open play just before the break, but Holly Payne replied for the students just after the restart. The winning goal was scored by Natalie Saymour from the penalty spot 22 minutes into the second half (pictured). Final score: 2-1 to Canterbury.

Leicester continue their charge at the top of the Women's Premiership with a 6-0 win over Trojans, with Reading still in contention after a 7-2 win over Clifton.
