OUTSIDER'S SPAIN HOLD AUSSIES TO DRAW

Spain picked up their first point in the Women's Champions' Trophy in Quilmes today when they held Australia to a 2-2 draw. Halfway into the first half the Australians were 2-0 up, thanks to a field goal and a penalty corner conversion by Peta Gallagher, but before the half time hooter sounded Spain were able to pull one back from a penalty corner by Rocio Ybarra. A second half goal by Pilar Sanchez gave Spain the draw. Germany also picked up their first points, with a 1-0 win over Japan, courtesy of a field goal from Nadine Ernsting-Krienke. Undoubtedly the match of the day will be the clash between the hosts, Argentina, and the favourites from the Netherlands. Neither side has dropped a point to date. Due to the time difference the result of this match was not available when this blog was posted at 23:20 on 16/1/07.
