NIGHTMARE SPELL GIVES SOUTH AFRICA VICTORY

Playing the second of a series of matches against South Africa in Stellenbosch, Great Britain went down 3-1 after a spell of play which GB coach Danny Kerry described as abominable. Chelmsford's Lisa Wooding opened the scoring from a penalty corner conversion but ten minutes into the second half GB threw away their one-goal lead when South Africa's skipper, Marsha Marescia, struck twice from penalty corners. With two minutes left on the clock, Shelley Russell added to the visitors' misery by scoring from open play. This is only the second defeat inflicted on Great Britain by South Africa in the history of meetings between these two sides
