DUTCH TAKE COMMANDING LEAD IN CHAMPIONS TROPHY

The Nethlerlands have assured themselves a place in the final of the BDO Champions Trophy in Quilmes (Argentina). Their latest scalp was Australia, who despite the modest final 1-0 scoreline, never seemed to seriously threaten the Dutch. This follows on from their victory over the hosts, who the Dutch beat 3-0 on Tuesday. The Netherlands are now on a maximum of 12 points from four matches with only Germany left to play. The Dutch dominance has left the rest of the pack trailing with Australia on 7 points, Argentina and Germany on 6, and Spain on 1. Debutantes Japan have yet to pick up a point and their best chance is probably against Spain on Saturday. There is no play in the Champions' Trophy today (Friday).

Our apologies to readers for failing to report on the Youth Olympics in Australia where GB men and women are competing. On Wednesday the men recorded a 3-0 victory over China, whilst the women went one better, winning 4-1 against China. Yesterday GB's women lost 2-1 to Australia, Suzie Gilbert being the GB scorer. The men fared better in their encounter with Australia, drawing 1-1 thanks to a Darren Cheeseman goal.
