England Hockey League Round-up for 5 March 2011:

Leicester knocked Canterbury off the top place in the Women's Premiership when the two sides met this afternoon. A single penalty corner conversion by Crista Cullen just before half time was enough to tie up the match and give Leicester a 1-0 win. Slough are still keeping within striking distance of the leaders with a 3-2 win over Birmingham University, which sees the students slip down to sixth place. Moving in the other direction are Reading, who move from sixth to fourth after their 3-2 win away at Clifton.

The women's Premier Division table has now split into two, with 11 points separating the sixth and seventh places. Brooklands Poynton on five points look the most likely relegation candidates, after losing 4-2 to Cannock this afternoon. Cannock have climbed out of the play-off spot, but are only separated on goal difference from Olton & West Warwicks in ninth place. Olton drew 1-1 away to Bowdon Hightown.

The top of the Women's East Conference remains competitive with six points separating the top five sides. The strongest challenger to the leaders, Sevenoaks, comes from Ipswich who slipped up this afternoon by losing 3-1 away at Chelmsford. Ironically, Chelmsford slip back one place after Surbiton beat Cambridge City 6-1.

The North Conference is looking increasingly like a two horse race, with Sutton Coldfield leading the pack and being chased by Loughborough Students. In the West, Buckingham's lead opened to four points after a 1-0 win over Firebrands, whilst Isca lost 3-1 to Swansea. With only three matches left to play, Worcester are as good as relegated. Their 8-1 defeat at the hands of Exe means that they are 14 points adrift at the bottom of the West table.

There was one match in the Men's Premier Division today, which is the late starting game between East Grinstead and Beeston. With leader's East Grinstead only winning two points from their last two games, a win by Beeston would close the gap to two points. We will bring you the result later this evening.
