Picture (right): Mellisa Leonetti, who scored for the USA in their match against France today.It is looking intriguingly likely that the second Women’s Olympic Qualifier, being held in Kazan (Russia), could result in a showdown between the mighty USA and a group of small islands off the coast of Venezuela. Two teams remain on maximum points after three matches and they meet each other in the final game of the round-robin stage on Saturday. The Netherlands Antilles won their match against Russia today, 3-1, whilst the USA overcame France 7-0. Both teams are on maximum points (9) but the USA have much the better goal difference, having scored 14 times in the last two matches. Tomorrow (Wednesday) in a rest day and play resumes on Thursday with the USA playing India and the Netherlands Antilles playing third-placed Belgium. Belgium and the Netherlands Antilles met each other three times during 2007 with the balance of the matches going 2-1 in favour of the Antilles.
