MIXED RESULTS FOR TEAMS MISSING ENGLAND PLAYERS. Results from todays England Hockey League matches

Three sides stripped of their England players on duty in New Delhi turned up some very different results in the Men's Premier Division this afternoon.

Surbiton, who have achieved some poor results in the second half of the season, produced a 2-1 win away at Cannock. Reading could only produce a draw when they visited Brooklands, and consequently the gap between the top and second placed club is reduced to four points.

Among the other front runners, East Grinstead did not play today. They will meet Bowdon tomorrow. Beeston seemed to miss their two England players, allowing bottom placed University of Exeter to mount a second half revival and draw 2-2.

The surprise result of the day was in the Women's Premier Division, where Bowdon Hightown managed to improve their goal tally for the entire season by 25%. Goals from Tina Cullen (2), Sally Walton, Fay Nash and Kath Coveney gave them a 5-1 win over University of Birmingham. Although they remain in eighth place, it increases the gap between them and Clifton to four points and they still have a game in hand.
