DEPLETED READING SECURE TOP SPOT

With only two matches left to end the season, Reading have finished top of the Men's Premier Division, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Cannock and Surbiton's 1-4 defeat by Brooklands MU. Reading have proved again that they are the division's most robust side when players are missing on international duties.

At the other end of the table play-off issues have still to be decided, with Bowdon, Cannock and Hampstead & Westminster theoretical candidates to be in the danger zone if Brooklands can snatch six more points from their last two games. All three share 19 points after Hampstead & Westminster beat Cannock 5-4 and Bowdon's defeat at Reading. Brooklands last two matches involve Hampstead & Westminster and bottom placed University of Exeter. Exeter lost their last chance of survival when they were beaten 1-3 by Loughborough Students this afternoon, and are now relegated.

Ironically, it was Brooklands Poynton who added to Bowdon Hightown's miseries when they defeated Highton 4-3 at home in a rearranged fixture in the Women's Premiership.

In the men's Conferences, Canterbury keep up their two point lead at the head of the East Conference after their 6-0 defeat of Sevenoaks. Deeside Ramblers in the North Conference have already booked their place in the promotion play-offs, but could only manage a scoreless draw when they played host to Sheffield Hallam. At the other end of the table, Formby are relegated after a 3-6 defeat at home to newcomers Harborne. In the West, Bath Buccaneers have been assured of a promotion play off spot for some time, but at the basement end Plymouth Marjon have a last slim chance of avoiding the drop. They are exactly six points behind Bournville with a three goal difference advantage in favour of Bournville. Their next opponents are Havant and Guildford.
