INDOOR LEAGUE GETS UNDER WAY

This season's Indoor England Hockey League started today, with both the men's and women's Premier Divisions being located at the same centre at Flemming Park, Eastleigh.

In the men's Premiership the usual suspects were heading the table, with Surbiton in fourth place just to add a new face to the mix. Reading currently lead the pack on goal difference, a situation much aided by a 20-4 win over Havant. Havant had a bad day, falling to Surbiton 15-3 earlier in the day.

Last year's champions, East Grinstead notched up two wins out of two, first overcoming Beeston 11-2 and then Harleston Magpies 8-2. It was Loughborough Students' 8-5 win over Surbiton that kept the Surrey side out of the top three. Earlier in the day the Students had beaten St Albans 8-4.

IN THE WOMEN'S PREMIER only two teams remain unbeaten at the end of the first day. Old hands Slough had two convincing wins, 10-2 over Trojans and 11-3 over Olton and West Warwicks, with their Jane Smith scoring no less than 13 goals over the day's games. They are ahead of Leicester on goal difference, who beat Canterbury 9-4 and Clifton 4-0. They are followed by five sides on three points. Clifton and Olton failed to record a win today.
