By beating France 8-1, England Men reached the semi-finals where they will play Germany.
Ashley Jackson, sporting a crew-cut since the last match, scored from three of England’s six penalty corners. There were two goals for both Richard Alexander and James Tindall, and a rare goal for defender Adam Dixon.
“The job was just about done in the first twenty minutes,” claimed Jason Lee, the England Coach. France threatened briefly in the first ten minutes of the second half when Fabien Magner pulled the score back to 3-1 from France’s only corner, but the match soon ran away from them.
Scott Goodheart, France’s Australian Coach, lamented his team’s performance. “I can’t concentrate on England’s tactics if our players can’t even stop the ball.”
As well as England played in periods there were some bad misses. Barry Middleton shot wide when well placed and Matt Daly , who scored in his three previous matches, squandered two good chances. Nick Catlin was unlucky when he hit the bar.
