England’s No 13, Grace Balsdon, proved that 13 is not necessarily an
unlucky number by firing in the winning goal to give her side a semi-final
place in the Women’s Junior World Cup in Monchengladbach.
It was 26 minutes into the first half when England were awarded a penalty
corner in the quarter-final against their opponents, Australia, from which
Grace scored the only goal of the match.
Their 0-1 win sets them up for a semi-final match against Argentina
tomorrow (Friday).
In the other semi-final The Netherlands will play India. The Dutch overcame the South Africans 9-1 in
their quarter final match, whilst India were the surprise 2-4 winners against
Spain. England’s semi-final opponents, Argentina, beat the USA 2-0 in their
quarter-final match.
In the Girls European Under 18 Championships in Dublin, England have
reached the semi-finals against The Netherlands by beating Belgium 1-3 this afternoon.
England’s scorers were Megan Crowson, Amelia Andrew and Lily Elliott. The semi finals will be played on Saturday.
The other semi final is between France and Germany.
