EXETER RECORD FIRST WIN AT SURBITON’S EXPENSE

It was a bad day at the office for some of the leaders in the Men's Premier League this afternoon.

University of Exeter recorded their first win of the season and likewise their opponents, Surbiton suffered their first defeat. The students made the early running, with an early goal from Ian Hayley and a goal from James Royce. Exeter increased their 2-0 lead within five minutes of start of the second half, when Nick Page converted a penalty corner.

Surbiton came back strongly towards the end of the second half with two goals from Tim Pinnock and an equaliser from Mike Houlihan. But it was Exeter who had the last word with an overtime penalty corner giving them the winner. Final score 4-3 to the students.

Ironically, the surprise result leaves the table unchanged, with Surbiton seven points ahead of third placed Beeston and University of Exeter four points adrift at the bottom.

Beeston's improved form continues into the second half of the season with a 3-0 win over Brooklands MU. Reading took revenge on East Grinstead for last weekend's defeat indoors, with EG conceding third place in the table to Beeston as a result of their 2-3 defeat at home.

One of the surprise results in the Conferences was at Bath. Bath Buccaneers, who had amassed a huge lead a the head of the West Conference, were held to a 3-3 draw by Fareham. Second placed Whitchurch won their match over Plymouth Marjon 3-1, reducing the Buccaneers lead to a still impressive 10 points.
