East Grinstead proved last weekend that losing the opening game is not a bar to winning a tournament, but Bowdon Hightown's goal difference may haunt them for the remaining three matches of the European Indoor Club Championships in Sumy in the Ukraine.
They got off to the worst possible start by losing their opening match to Club An Der Alster from Germany 9-1. Although they won their second game, against Bonagrass Grove of Scotland, the 4-2 margin will do little to balance out the goal deficit.
After the first day's play, the table is led by Club de Campo de Madrid on six points, followed by Club An Der Alster and Bowdon Hightown each on three. However, Bowdon's -6 goal difference puts them in third place, followed by Bonagrass grove on zero points.
Bowdon Hightown play Club de Campo in their final pool match tomorrow.
