Loughborough Students, last year's winning finalists in the National Indoor Championships, finished in the bottom half of the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy this weekend, after a campaign of mixed success. On Friday they went down 8-2 to Swedish side Partille in their first match, but followed this up with a 7-3 win over HC Bra from Italy. In their third pool match, played yesterday, they met Kolos-Sekvoya Vinnitsa of the Ukraine. Trailing 2-0 at half time they made a brave effort at recovery but finished the match as losers at 2-3.
Playing in what is sometimes called the 'Relegation Pool' they fought back from 3-2 down against Belarussian side Minsk to take the match 6-2. In their final match today they drew 4-4 against Lousada of Portugal to take the 5th place in the tournament.
The trophy tournament is the second tier in this competition, Canterbury having been relegated from the 'A' division in Perth last year.
It is the turn of the women next weekend, with Slough representing England in the women's 'A' division in Madrid. TalkHockeyRadio will be there and will be carrying reports on this blog, together with images on our pictures pages and full coverage in our on-line magazine HockeyTalk.
