SLOUGH FACE NINE GOAL SETBACK INN OPENING MATCH by Peter Savage in Madrid

Someone described it to me as Slough's worst performance in Europe ever and the 9-2 scoreline against Dinam0 Sumchanka tells it own story. In a fast and furious match, Slough were outgunned in every department and went through a period of outright collapse when they conceded four goals in ten minutes. Without Alex Scott, who had returned home for 'personal reasons', Slough had little firepower up front and only Steffi Cordier could find the net. Two penalty stroke chances were fluffed, first by Jane Smith and then Fiona Greenham.

Slough will have to pick themselve up for their second match today, against the powerful Germans from Club an der Alster, to stand any reastic chance of keeping England's place in this competition.
