LIGHT BLUES WIN VARSITY MATCH

The 108th Varsity Match was played at the Southgate Hockey Centre this afternoon. Cambridge had much the lion's share of the possession - possession that was reflected by goals, the first coming from 21 year old Nick McLaren in the fourteenth minute. Oxford equalised early in the second half, their goal coming from a penalty corner conversion by skipper David Cresswell, but it only took minutes for Cambridge to put themselves back in front, Jez Hansell scoring from a penalty. A late penalty stroke converted by Stuart Penman was icing on the cake for Cambridge, who won the match 3-1. Our photograph shows Penman receiving the Varsity Cup at the end of the match.

The women's match went to Oxford, who won 2-1
