Argentina, who were surprise finalists this afternoon in
Round Three of the Men’s World League in Johor, Malaysia, almost went the distance with the World
Champions, Germany, before finally losing the match to two late goals scored by
Florian Fuchs and Christopher Wesley. Both were scored in the last three
minutes. In the first half Argentina
twice came from behind to draw level by half time. Final score, 2-4 to Germany.
England had earlier played Korea for third place. Ben Arnold
had given England an early lead, which they managed to hang on to until 16
minutes into the second half, when Seong Kyu Lee equalised from a penalty
corner. Eight minutes later it was England’s turn to find the net from a corner,
when Harry Martin found the net. Final score, 2-1 to England.
Seventh place in the tournament was taken by Pakistan, who
beat South Africa 2-6, and fifth place was won by Malaysia after their match
against Japan ended 1-1 in normal time and had to be settled by a shoot out.
