The England Hockey League does not officially re-start after its winter break until next week but there were seven matches postponed from the weekend of 27/28 November which were played today. There should have been an eighth but wintry conditions struck the North Conference match between Sheffield Hallam and Olton & West Warwicks for the second time and it has had to be postponed again. Elsewhere in the North, Leek put three past Harborne to win 3-1 and increase their lead at the top of the table to five points. In the East Conference, Holcombe's hopes of promotion took a dent when they went down 3-0 away to Harleston Magpies. The gap between them and leaders Southgate has opened to five points. The West conference saw three matches played, two of which involved promotion contenders. University of Exeter, looking for an early return to the Premiership earned maximum points at home against University of Birmingham. A second half rally by Fareham failed to stop Bath Buccs charge at the top of the table, but Exeter Uni still hold the lead on goal difference. At the other end of the table, Bournville increased their chances of survival with a 5-4 win over Bournville. Tomorrow (Sunday) sees the Super Sixes Indoor Finals at Wembley.
