Following the International Hockey Federation's decision to move the 2011 Men's Champions Trophy from India, they announced today that the tournament had been awarded to New Zealand. It will be held in Auckland between 3rd and 11th December 2011.
New Zealand will replace India in the tournament. New Zealand, who are ranked seventh in the world, were due to play in the Champions Challenge in South Africa. Their place will now be taken by India, whose original Champions Trophy place was held by virtue of them being the Trophy's hosts.
FIH Competitions Committee Chairman, Ken Read, went to New Zealand to check out the facilities that were on offer and came away impressed. "After seeing the facilities and infrastructure first hand, I am confident that New Zealand is prepared to host a great event for the athletes and supporters."
