LEICESTER CONFIRM ASCENDENCY

It was no change in the Women's Premier Division after this afternoon's matches. With only six league matches to go until the end of the season, their will be a feeling of elation or despair, depending on where the clubs currently find themselves.

Top of the table Leicester confirmed their ascendency at the expense of current league champions Bowdon Hightown. Leicester's 5-0 win maintains their margin but places Bowdon firmly in a play-off position. They will probably be spared automatic relegation as Trojans continue to struggle. This afternoon they played host to second placed Reading, losing 3-1.

Canterbury manage to hold onto their fifth place despite losing to Brooklands Poynton at home, 2-0. Slough, in third place, keep in touch with the leaders by recording a 2-2 draw at Olton.

The match between University of Birmingham and Clifton ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the Conferences, new girls Northampton Saints recorded their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Harleston. Surprisingly they are only two points adrift at the bottom and a late charge could save them from a swift return to their regional league.

The contest at the top of the West Conference took an interesting turn when second placed Cannock played first placed Barnes. The match ended 4-0 in Cannock's favour with the sides swapping places in the table. Cannock now lead on goal difference.
