FAREHAM DOMINATE AFTER NIGHTMARE START

There were several late starts in the Men's Premier Division today, including the top of the table clash between leaders Surbiton and last season's champions, East Grinstead. We will bring you the score from that match later this evening.

In the women's Premiership, Bowdon Hightown's unexpected fall from grace continues as they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline when they played host to leaders, Leicester. Bowdon, who only lost one game last season, have now lost three of their four league matches.

TalkHockeyRadio was at Men's West Conference side Fareham to see the new boys to the England Hockey League take on the experienced Stourport. In what was an extraordinary match, Fareham had a nightmarish first half, during which they were 2-0 down from goals by Nick Duggan and Ali Razza, before James Seagar was able to pull one back from a penalty corner on the stroke of half time (pictured). One could be forgiven for wondering whether Fareham's defence and forwards had ever met before today, as repeatedly passes out of defence were intercepted by Stourport, and Fareham's defence put under pressure.

It was clearly a different Fareham that came out for the second half, with Geoff Abott finding the net within seconds of the restart. Shaun Baker then put Fareham ahead from a penalty corner but it was not until the last ten minutes that the growing pressure and confidence of the Fareham forwards start to show. Alex Bennett added his name to the scoresheet, followed by a James Seagar penalty corner minutes later. It just needed Ben Hibberd to round off the scoring by ending the match on 6-2.

An impressive performance but our spies tell us that this is the second week that Fareham have had a poor first half. They are currently one of three clubs on 9 points in this division, sitting three points beneath leaders Team Bath Buccaneers.
