TOM - A BOON TO BRUXELLES by Peter Colwill at the EuroHockey League in Antwerp

Rotweiss Wettingen defender Michael Keller received the biggest cheer of the day when he converted his side’s third penalty corner.  The fly in the ointment was that Rotterdam were leading 11-0 at the time.  There were four goals for Roderick Weusthof, including a hat-trick in the first 17 minutes, and also 4 goals for Jeroen Hertzberger, their captain.

Bruxelles were the great escape artists.  At 5-2 down against Der Club an der Alster and with fourteen minutes left, they put Cedric Buchet on at kicking back and with three minutes left, they pulled level to draw 5-5.  Tom Boon scored all their goals, three from penalty corners.
Banbridge were unlucky to lose the opening match 4-3 to French club Montrouge having led 2-1, and will need to beat Hamburg to progress.

Cookstown’s Red Army were the supporters of the day, although the singing award went to Club an der Alster.

The schedule of tomorrow’s matches has changed and the start time of the first match (UHC Hamburg v CA Montrouge) is now 11.15 CET.
