EURO DRAW ENSURES ENGLISH CLUB IN ROUND THREE

England is guaranteed a quarter final place in the EuroHockey League as the draw puts East Grinstead up against Reading in Round Two this Easter. The winner will go on to play the victor of the match between Belgian side KHC Dragons and Rot Weiss Koln of Germany.

The third English side in the competition, Beeston, will play Dinamo Kazan of Russia. The winners will most likely find themselves playing Barry Middleton's old club, HGC of The Netherlands in the next round. HGC are scheduled to play Glenanne of Ireland in Round Two.

Amongst the other matches that have emerged from the draw, the meeting between Bloemendaal and UHC Hamburg promises to be a competitive match. Both clubs have won the league in previous seasons and UHC are the current holders. The winner faces another tough match in Round three, where they will face either Oranje Zwart of The Netherlands or Spain's RC Club de Barcelona.

The venue for Rounds Two and Three of this season's EuroHockey League is Bloemendaal. Round Two matches will be played on 22nd and 23rd April, followed by the Round Two matches on 24th and 25th.

The draw in full:

Bloemendaal v UHC Hamburg
Oranje Zwart v RC Polo de Barcelona
KHC Dragons v Rot Weiss Koln
East Grinstead v Reading
Beeston v Dinamo Kazan
HGC v Glenanne
Mannheimer v Atletic Terrassa
Club de Campo v Pembroke Wanderers

FROZEN PITCHES WIPE 0UT MEN’S PREMIERSHIP

Wintry conditions wiped out the England Hockey League for the second day running, after no matches were played in the Women's Premier Division yesterday. Today it was the turn of the Men's Premier Division. Frozen pitches were cited as the most common reason for the cancelation. There were no Conference matches due to be played today.

The England Hockey League now goes into its winter recess and, with the exception of a handful of re-arranged matches, no more games will be played until February. However, there is still a lot of activity taking place in senior hockey, with the indoor league starting next weekend and culminating in the national indoor championships at Wembley on 30 January.

WINTRY CONDITIONS CONTINUE LEAGUE CHAOS

Wintry conditions continue to disrupt the England Hockey League programme with all today's Women's Premier Division matches being postponed. Things do not look promising either for the Men's Premier, with only the matches between Surbiton and Reading, and East Grinstead and Canterbury, still due to be played tomorrow.

The damage to the league programme caused by a second week of postponements has been mitigated by the fact that the Conferences started their break after last weekend's matches. The England Hockey League now goes into the Christmas/New year period with no games due to be played until 5 February 2011, save for a handful of re-arranged matches.

With the promise that freezing conditions could return during next week, the spotlight now turns on the indoor league which are due to start next Saturday. Last season saw massive disruption to the programme caused by snow and ice after Christmas.
