Formby secured another season in the Slazenger EHL this afternoon by beating City of Peterborough at home. Coming into the match with zero points, the City were playing for their honour only. Formby needed a win to overtake Firebrands who were leading the relegation tournament this morning. A goal in each half, the first from Richard Thompson and the second from Joshua Cropper, was enough to give Formby the three points they needed to draw level with Firebrands. Formby win the relegation tournament with a goal difference of +2, as opposed to Firebrands +1. Firebrands and City of Peterborough are relegated to their respective regional leagues.
In the women's tournament, goals by Jacqui Ward and Rebecca Gladstone in their match against Whitely Bay & Tynemouth gave Sevenoaks maximum points and they remain in the EHL. Whitley Bay's scorer in their 2-1 defeat was Kath Smith.
North Conference Brooklands got off to a cracking start in their campaign to take one of the two places in the Men's Premier Division. Playing in the promotion play-offs in Bristol, their David Seddon scored in under 60 seconds in the match against Havant. Havant fought back, taking the lead through goals by Andrew Pett and Calum Giles, before Brooklands scored the equaliser on the stroke of half time. Brad King and Andy Bull put Brooklands back in front in the second half and, although Havant's Tim Davenport scored late in the half, it was too late to stop Brooklands claiming the three points.
Brookslands lead the promotion table followed by University of Exeter, who beat Oxted 2-1.
