VIDEO UMPIRE RESCUES GRINSTEAD by Peter Savage at the EuroHockey League in Lille

The video umpire came to the rescue of East Grinstead in their first match of Round 1b of the EuroHockey League this morning in Lille. After trailing twice against Waterloo Ducks in chilly and wet conditions, Grinstead found themselves at 2-2 with 11 minutes of play left, their goals coming from German international Martin Haner and Danny Hall. A decision at the top of the Ducks' circle, which had gone against East Grinstead, was the subject of a video umpire appeal. The result was a penalty corner award which was converted by David Creswell. Grinstead managed to hang on to their 3-2 lead tenaciously to record a win, which will probably see them qualify for Round 2. They play Kelburne tomorrow, who lost against the Ducks yesterday.

We hope to bring you some photographs from the match this evening subject to finding a fast and reliable Internet connection.
