EUROHOCKEY LEAGUE LEAVES BEST UNTIL LAST by Peter Savage in Rotterdam

The EuroHockey League weekend in Rotterdam came to an exciting climax as the last of the quarter final matches was played out. In a reprise of last year's final, Bloemendaal met UHC Hamburg.

With the score 3-3 at full time, 10 minutes of silver goal time failed to resolve the issue, so the match went to the unique one-on-one shoot out used in this competition. Surprisingly, Bloemendaal failed to find the net at their first two attempts, by which time goals from Moritz and Jonas Furste were enough to secure the win for Hamburg.

Earlier in the day, Rotterdam defeated the Atletic Terrassa after the Spanish side had made an impressive second half recovery. In what was a classical game of two halves, Rotterdam had established a 3-0 lead by half time and the match eventually ended 5-3 in their favour.

IN BERLIN Olton and West Warwicks failed to progress through to Round Three of the EuroHockey Women's Club Champions Cup when they were beaten by UHC's women 5-1. Bowdon Hightown had some compensation for an unsuccessful weekend when they defeated MSC Sumchanka 2-0. Bowdon had already been eliminated from the competition and the result is only significant in terms of next season's ranking.
