FIVE GOAL GHAZANFAR RETURNS TO LEAGUE

The men's England Hockey League started today and all eyes were on the newly promoted sides.

In the Premiership it was an all new boys meeting at Brooklands MU as they entertained University of Exeter. The only goal of the match was scored by Brooklands' Dave Seddon.

In the North Conference, Pakistan international Ali Ghazanfar made a spectacular return to the national league as he scored five of Deeside Ramblers seven against Formby. The other new side, Harborne, could only manage to rescue a 1-1 draw against University of Durham when their Luke Lambert scored a last gasp equaliser.

Harleston's return to the EHL saw them score two against Sevenoaks with their visitors grabbing a consolation goal just before the final whistle.

In the West Conference Fareham showed them mean business with a fine display at home to Whitchurch, with goals from James Seagar (2), Ben Hibberd, Shaun Baker and Alex Bennett in their 5-2 win. Playmouth Marjons' return to the national league saw them draw 1-1 at home to Guildford.
