EXETER RETURN TO PREMIERSHIP

University of Exeter and Southgate both secured a return to the Men’s Premier Division of the England Hockey League this afternoon in the final day of the Promotion Tournament.

Canterbury’s last surviving hope of staying in the Premiership crashed when they went down 2-5 to Durham University this afternoon. The game was marred by the dismissal of Canterbury’s Michael Farrar and the University’s Mark Galloway, who were both shown red cards in the final minutes of the match. This was for being shown their second yellow card of the game.

University of Exeter beat Southgate 5-2. Southgate crept back into the Premiership by virtue of a superior goal difference over Durham.

In the women’s Promotion Tournament, Sutton Coldfield finished the weekend unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Buckingham and return to the Premier Division after an absence of a few seasons. Olton & West Warwicks retain their Premiership status by beating Sevenoaks 2-0.

Full details of the scorers will appear on this blog later.
