TWO CONFERENCES STILL UP FOR GRABS

With just one match left, play-off places in the two of the three men’s Conferences are still up for grabs.

In the EAST CONFERENCE, Oxted maintain their charge with an emphatic win over City of Peterborough. The list of scorers looks more like a roll-call than a score sheet, with Nick Sisson, Richard Appleton, Thornton McDade (2), Ricahrd Arscott, Johannes Kloess, Ben Shorten, Ken Forbes and Chris Grounds all finding the net. This was despite the City’s Richard Corbett opening the scoring with less than 60 seconds on the clock. Final score 9-2. Canterbury, who are two points behind leaders Oxted, came away the winners at home to Bromley and Beckenham with two apiece from Leigh Barratt and Lloyd Norris-Jones. Final score 4-1. Ipswich suffered a 6-1 setback at Holcombe but can still escape relegation if they win their match next week, when they play fellow strugglers Chelmsford. Both Chelmsford and City of Peterborough are on seven points, one point ahead of Ipswich.

University of Durham dented their chances of a play-off place in the NORTH CONFERENCE when they went down 5-4 to Leek. They are now three points behind Brooklands MU who head the table. Brooklands saw off Formby 5-1 this afternoon, aided by an Ollie Cooper hat-trick. Belper, in second place, keep up their challenge with a 2-0 win over Barford Tigers. Brooklands and Belper meet next weekend in what will effectively be a decider in this Conference.

In the WEST CONFERENCE, University of Exeter have bagged their play-off place with a 3-1 win over Guildford. Relegation issues are still open with Cardiff and Firebrands being on 14 and 13 points respectively.
